Methodology: Microscopy
Performed: Mon-Fri
Reported: Within 5 days
Specimen Required: Collect: Obtain Muscle/Nerve Biopsy Kit prior to collection (ARUP Supply #40923). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Special fixatives are required, prior to collection procedure.
Muscle/nerve tissue.


Specimen Preparation: Transport muscle/nerve tissue.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Tissue for special studies: Frozen.
Tissue for light microscopy (10% NB Formalin) and electron microscopy (2.5% glutaraldehyde)
: Room temperature. Send Sunday through Thursday only.


Remarks: Collection/submission instructions must be followed. Submit clinical history and a preliminary report if applicable.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens that are not collected according to the collection instructions provided in collection kit. Specimens in inappropriate or frozen fixatives. Frozen specimens that have been thawed.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Special Studies: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 24 hours.
Microscopy:
Ambient: Acceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable
