Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Collect: Plain red or serum separator tube. Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.1 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: 60 days

Reference Interval: 0-150 pmol/L
Interpretive Data:	HE4 is to be used as an aid in monitoring recurrence of progressive disease in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. Serial testing for patient HE4 results should be used in conjunction with other clinical methods for monitoring ovarian cancer. Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably. ARUP uses the Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc. HE4 enzyme immunometric assay.
