Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Patient Prep: Patient should fast for eight hours prior to morning urine collection. Restrict fluid intake to three 8 oz glasses or less for 24 hours. Make sure that no more than 8 oz is consumed after 8:00 PM the evening prior to collection. Empty bladder before going to bed. Collection is preferred on days 18-25 after the start of the menstrual cycle. Do not collect during menstruation. Timing is not important for post-menopausal women. Testing is not recommended during pregnancy. Collect: Urine, first morning void. Order kit prior to collection (ARUP Supply #40478). Collection kit available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Specimen Preparation: Transport 13 mL urine. Storage/Transport Temperature: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 2 weeks
