Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Reported:	Within 7 days Final: Negative within 7 days Average time to positive: 3 days
Specimen Required:	Collect: Body fluid, CSF, respiratory, semen, cervical or urethral swab, tissue or urine. Specimen Preparation: Place swab or specimen in Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma transport media (UTM) (ARUP supply #12884) immediately. Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min: 0.5 mL). Also acceptable: Any transport media validated for Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma transport (DO NOT USE M4 RT). Use a sterile, leak-proof container for tissue or fluids if Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma transport media is unavailable. Place each specimen in an individually sealed bag. Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. Transport specimen on dry ice. Remarks: Specimen source required. Unacceptable Conditions: M4 RT or bacterial transport media. Non-patient specimens. Dry swabs. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours in Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma transport media; Frozen at -70°C: 1 month

Reference Interval: Culture negative for Ureaplasma spp and Mycoplasma hominis.
Note:	This culture will recover both Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma spp, if present. No environmental cultures performed. This testing is not suitable for determining mycoplasma contamination in any cell line or tissue culture.
