Specimen Required: Collect: Actively growing isolate in pure culture.

Specimen Preparation: Transport sealed container with pure culture on agar slant. Place each specimen in individually sealed bag.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. If culture is suspected of being a microorganism listed as infectious substance affecting humans on IATA list, submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category A, shipping guidelines.

Remarks: Isolate identification and specimen source required.

Unacceptable Conditions: Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval:
Susceptible, intermediate, or resistant.
Units = µg/mL
Note: Aerobic susceptibility testing is organism dependent.  Various methods are used and various agents are reported.  Specific antibiotics to be tested should be indicated on the test request in order to ensure their inclusion in the panel.

An additional handling fee will be billed for all organisms submitted that are not in pure culture as indicated in the specimen requirements.
