Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Stain/Culture/Identification
Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	2-7 days Preliminary: negative at 2 days, or as soon as positive detected. Final: negative at 5 days (Rule out Actinomyces at 10 days)
Specimen Required:	Collect: Contact the laboratory prior to collection of the specimen if consultation on collection containers or transport is needed. Aspirate, body fluids, tissues, or material collected from areas without normal anaerobic flora. Specimen Preparation: Place specimen immediately into anaerobe transport media (ARUP supply #16426). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Remarks: Specimen source required. Indicate if Actinomyces is suspected. Unacceptable Conditions: Specimen from site with normal anaerobic flora. Aerobic conditions. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 48 hour; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval: Culture negative for anaerobes. Identification and susceptibilities performed on positive cultures when appropriate.
Note:	Gram stain, identification, and susceptibility tests are billed separately from culture.
