Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	Within 7 days Preliminary: as soon as positive detected; Final: Negative at 7 days
Specimen Required:	Collect: Nasal aspirate or washing or nasopharyngeal swab. Specimen Preparation: Aspirate or Washing: Transfer to a sterile container.(Min: 0.5 mL). Nasopharyngeal Swab: Place swab in Regan-Lowe transport media and incubate for 24-48 hours at 35°C (ARUP supply# 24962). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Also acceptable: Swab in Jones Kendrick media or Amies with charcoal media, or swabs in described media sent directly without incubation. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature or refrigerated. Remarks: Specimen source preferred. Unacceptable Conditions: Sputum, Eswabs or medias other than listed above. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Incubated Regan-Lowe: Ambient: 4 days; Refrigerated: 4 days; Frozen: Unacceptable Unincubated Regan-Lowe, Amie with charcoal swab, Aspirate or Washing: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable

Reference Interval: Culture negative for Bordetella pertussis.
Interpretive Data:	A negative culture does not exclude the possibility of Bordetella pertussis infection.
Note:	Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis detection by PCR also available (0065080).
CPT Code(s):	87081 presumptive identification. If definitive identification required, add 87077.
