Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Collect: Green (sodium heparin). Specimen must be collected within 30 hours of test performance. Specimen Preparation: Transport 3 mL whole blood in original collection tube. (Min: 0.5 mL) LIVE LYMPHOCYTES REQUIRED. Storage/Transport Temperature: CRITICAL ROOM TEMPERATURE. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Unacceptable Conditions: Refrigerated or frozen specimens. Specimens older than 30 hours. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 30 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Interpretive Data:

This assay quantifies the concentration of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) produced by circulating immune cells in response to phytohemagglutinin-L (PHA-L) stimulation. This assay does not directly quantify the level of immunosuppression.

ATP Level	Result	Interpretation
225 ng/mL or lower	Low	The patient's circulating immune cells are showing low response to PHA-L stimulation.
226-524 ng/mL	Moderate	The patient's circulating immune cells are showing moderate response to PHA-L stimulation.
525 ng/mL or greater	Strong	The patient's circulating immune cells are showing strong response to PHA-L stimulation.
