Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Specimen Required:	Collect: Tumor tissue. Specimen Preparation: Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin is preferred) and paraffin embed specimen. Protect paraffin block and / or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3-5 micron thick sections), positively charged slides in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808) available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min. 3 slides).If sending precut slides, do not oven bake. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature or refrigerated. Ship in cooled container during summer months. Remarks: This test code includes pathologist interpretation. Include surgical pathology report. IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY ORDERING AND SUBMISSION DETAILS: Submit electronic request. If you do not have electronic ordering capability, use an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. Unacceptable Conditions: Paraffin block with no tumor tissue remaining; specimens fixed in B-5 or Bouin's fixative. Reference Interval: Negative - Good Prognosis (< 10% of nuclei stain) Positive - Poor Prognosis (> 10% of nuclei stain)
Interpretive Data:	Assay is performed on paraffin-embedded, formalin-fixed tissue. Antibody clone is DO-7 and the detection system is LSAB. Although many studies have shown an association between p53 staining and poor prognosis, some articles have shown no association. This association is currently an area of active investigation. This test uses a commercial kit or reagent that has not been approved or cleared by the FDA. Its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories. Results of this test should be interpreted with caution in the context of other data.
