Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Specimen Required:	Collect: Tumor tissue. Specimen Preparation: Formalin fix (10% neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin-embed tissue. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained 5 micron slides. (Min: 3 slides) Protect paraffin block from excessive heat. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature or refrigerated. Ship in cooled container during summer months. Remarks: Include surgical pathology report. Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen specimens. Specimens fixed or processed in alternative fixatives (alcohol, Prefer®) or heavy metal fixatives (B-4 or B-5). No tumor in tissue. Decalcified specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Indefinitely; Refrigerated: Indefinitely; Frozen: Unacceptable
