As of August 15, 2011, a new calculi test is available. The Calculi Analysis with Photo (test code 2005231) is reported using the electronic enhanced reporting (EER) system. The test report includes calculi mass, number, approximate size, a description, percent composition, and a link to a photograph of the specimen submitted for analysis. The enhanced report can be downloaded from the ARUP Laboratories website using a unique username and password provided on each report.
Specimens are photographed against a light blue background to accentuate the color and texture of the stone. Scale bars are included on a representative stone or fragment, or at the edge of the photograph, to provide a guide to the size and shape of the specimen.
The calculi test with enhanced reporting is advantageous to physicians who in many cases do not see the specimen. It also serves as a visual history for patients with urolithiasis and may be used to document artifacts found within the stone.
